Čukaru Peki Project Overview

The Čukaru Peki copper and gold mine, located in Bor, Serbia, is one of Europe’s most advanced and significant mining projects. The deposit comprises two main parts— the Upper Zone and the Lower Zone — and, together with the Bor Copper Mine, it aims to position Bor as Europe’s second-largest copper mining base and make Serbia the continent’s second-largest copper producer.

Where Advanced Technology Meets Environmental Responsibility

Čukaru Peki is Serbia’s newest and most modern mine, built using state-of-the-art technologies and the highest international standards in mining, safety, and environmental protection.

Its operations are based on the principles of circular economy, striving for a “zero environmental impact” through innovative and sustainable methods. In underground mining, the excavated chambers are refilled with paste made from tailings, a byproduct of ore processing. This mixture is produced in the Backfilling Plant, the first and only facility of its kind in Serbia, enabling the reuse of materials and minimizing waste.

Ore is transported through fully enclosed conveyor systems that prevent dust dispersion, while processing takes place in the Mineral Processing Plant — where the ore undergoes crushing, flotation, and final separation into high-quality copper concentrate, the mine’s end product.

By products such as pyrite and minor portions of unutilized material are safely manage data most modern tailings storage facility. The facility is lined with an impermeable membrane to prevent seepage and covered with water to eliminate dust emissions, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Innovation and Environmental Excellence

Driven by an ambition to establish Serbia’s first modern “park-like” green mine, Čukaru Peki continuously improves its environmental performance through comprehensive measures in water, air, noise, and waste management, as well as ecological restoration.

The mine area is equipped with a network of monitoring stations that track dust, noise, blasting vibrations, and water quality. Regular sampling and analysis are conducted by independent third-party agencies, ensuring transparency and adherence to global environmental standards.

Through these initiatives, Čukaru Peki sets a new benchmark for the mining industry in Serbia — proving that technological excellence and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, and reaffirming its vision of becoming the region’s leading model of sustainable mining and green development.
